Condition Summary: (Very Good/Very Good) A tidy copy, in a very tidy dust jacket. All notable faults: Book has very light foxing on the prelims. Dust jacket has a few closed tears, up to 20 mm (3/4 of an inch) long and minor chipping, up to 5 mm (1/4 of an inch) deep at the head and foot of the spine. Dust jacket conservation: Tears have been stabilised with Archibond 9gsm Archival Tissue [fully reversible]

F. S. [Frank Sydney] Smythe (1900 to 1949)—British mountaineer, author, photographer and botanist in the early years of high altitude mountaineering. As a mountaineer carried out first ascents of the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc and of Kamet, and had attempts on Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest in the 1930s. He wrote 27 books illustrated with his own photographs
