About the Author(s) Arthur [Mitchell] Ransome (1884 to 1967)—English author and journalist, born in Leeds and best known for writing the Swallows and Amazons series of children's books and Gabriel Woolf (1932-)—English film and television actor whose television and film roles include Tom Brown's School Days (1951), The Knights of the Round Table (1963) and numerous Doctor Who stories. He also works extensively on radio include Shakespeare's Romeo and Inspector Charles Parker in the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries as well as abridging and reading over forty major novels. He is a winner of the Gold Medal at RADA
